The 123rd session of the South Carolina Legislature began on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, starting the first year of the two year 2019-20 legislative session. The inauguration for Gov. Henry McMaster (R) was held on Wednesday, as he celebrated his first election as governor of the state. Gov. McMaster’s speech focused on education, specifically investment in training a skilled workforce for the jobs that exist in the state and the additional ones he plans to bring to rural areas.
Next week the Senate will focus on committee work and meet in perfunctory session only to take up unanimous consent local and uncontested matters. The Senate will return to regular statewide session on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 2PM.
